A brief update

Well, tonight I just wanted to post a brief update so that Google, the company behind blogger, won't feel neglected. "Google, I want you to know that even though I'm not a high-frequency poster, I continue to think about you daily."

What I'm up to:
Working of course. I just registered for 9 credits of my first quarter of the iSchool and now searching for books that have to be special ordered. Such as "Theories of Information Behavior." This autumn, I'm also taking "Internet Technologies." and have started reading "The Rough Guide to The Internet" 2006 ed. by Peter Buckley and Duncan Clark, which simply demystifies the history, use and terminology behind the internet, which most of use take for granted, but still really don't understand very well. Soon, I'll be a bonifide geek that knows how Wi-Fi actually functions (configuration/troubleshooting) that comes with maintaining ones own systems, while one of my co-workers still seems to believe that the "We have our own web-page, that's just for us," when in reality, it's just a secure "U-drive" on the server, maintained by our dept. IT guys, where we can store our files.

I've never been very interested in learning to "hard-code" but guess that I will be since there is a standard HTML and XML manual in the book-list.

The repressed secretary has had a whirlwind of a week. Starting with last Thursday February 24th, I was invited by friend Clark Humphrey of www.miscmedia.com to a 60's cocktail culture party with a twist. All I knew ahead of time was to "Come dressed up." The shin-dig took place at "The Blue Flamingo, amateur bar and home of Russell Scheidelman , whom I later found out was ex-Combutible Edison and the creator of an amusing little magazine called Organs and Bongos, which he gave to me as a gift. The next morning, as I was trying to recover, I read the piece straight through, I loved the "fake ads" for products like the ads for various vinyl albums that presumably someone should make, but never has..Need examples. The party was staffed by a professional photographer named George Vernon, two cute DJ's who were sisters and a bartender, serving an incredible variety of drinks from behind a miniature bar. Ever Google Yourself?

Have you ever Googled yourself? It's disturbing to note how many "Jennifer Morales-es" there really are out there in cyberspace and beyond. I searched and searched the pages and eventually found a reference to myself from my old pal Clark Humphrey of www.miscmedia.com thanking me for helping him with some installation work circa 2001. In the meantime, there were just hundreds and hundreds of posts and listings about people more prominent than me with my name, and even same geographic location. Being a Jennifer born in the 70's, I've met probably hundreds of other Jennifers at parties, school functions, and we are always having to clarify, "no call me Jen" or "Hi, I'm Jen M., to differentiate yourself from other "Jens" in the office, school or whatever.
